Truth trackers: Innovative approaches to fact-checking in turbulent times | INNOVATION SPARKS | EP04

Fact-checking, once the bedrock of journalism, has become an indispensable format. It acts as a firewall against the relentless attempts by interest groups, regimes, and individuals to manipulate public opinion.

Fact-checking, once the bedrock of journalism, has become an indispensable format. It acts as a firewall against the relentless attempts by interest groups, regimes, and individuals to manipulate public opinion. As the world grapples with multiple crises, fact-checkers are at the forefront, using innovative tools and methods to counter these deceptions.

In our new Innovation Sparks episode, we're thrilled to welcome Sophie Timmermann, the deputy head of CORRECTIV's fact-checking team, who is deeply immersed in the world of alternative online political media and open-source investigations. But also, Darko Brkan, the president of CA "Why not," is an outspoken advocate for civic activism and the transformative role of technology in strengthening democracy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Together with our host, Jakov Leon, media consultant at DW Akademie, they navigate the complex world of fact-checking and explore pressing issues. Is collaboration and networking the key to staying relevant in times of crisis? Or should we focus on the untapped potential of AI and automated tools?
